This trailer for Bates Motel gives us a glimpse at the reimagined Norman Bates

After a pair of teaser trailers, we now have our first solid look at the re-imagining of Alfred Hitchcock‘s PSYCHO. While I was skeptical of how this would work as a series, I have to say this video gives me a lot of hope.

Instead of a murder-of-the-week format, BATES MOTEL truly looks like it will be an exploration of the unique teenage years of Norman Bates and his mother. Moving the story to a contemporary setting gives the filmmakers a chance to take the characters and explore them in greater detail. They won’t be tied down by making sure everything is period accurate and can focus on the development of a psychopath.

This trailer also includes a lot of behind the scenes with showrunner Carlton Cuse and the excellent cast that includes Freddie Highmore, Vera Farmiga, Nestor Carbonell, Max Thieriot, Olivia Cooke, and Mike Vogel.

BATES MOTEL will premiere on A&E in March 2013.
