This September, SyFy gets creepy with Channel Zero, Van Helsing premieres

SyFy just rolled out a whole set of airdates for their new and returning shows, but the two we've been following with the most interest are both hitting in the same week this coming September. 

The first of these is Van Helsing, their gender-bent twist on a classic character. The show will premiere on Friday, September 23rd:

Vanessa Helsing is the next in a lineage of warriors who must lead mankind against a world controlled by vampires. When Vanessa is resurrected five years in the future, she learns vampires have taken over the world and that she possesses unique power over them. She is essentially humanity’s last hope to lead an offensive to take back what has been lost.

The show stars Kelly Overton (Legends, True Blood), Jonathan Scarfe, Christopher Heyerdahl, Paul Johansson, David Cubitt, and Tim Guinee.

Van Helsing will be overseen by playwright/screenwriter Neil LaBute. Nomadic Pictures (Fargo, Hell On Wheels) is producing the 13-episode series.

And then the first season of the anthology series Channel Zero will premiere on Tuesday, September 27th. It will be based on the creepypasta meme "Candle Cove." The synopsis:

A man's obsessive recollections of a mysteries children's television show from the 1980s – and the show's suspected role in a series of murders and deadly events from his childhood.

That man is Paul Schneider (Parks and Recreation), and he is joined by Fiona Shaw (HARRY POTTER), Shaun Benson (General Hospital), Natalie Brown (HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS), and Luisa D’Oliveira (50/50).

The show, which has already been ordered for a second season, was written by Hannibal's Nick Antosca, who also serves as the showrunner. He will also executive produce with Max Landis. All six of the first season's episodes were directed by Craig William Macneill (THE BOY – no, not the doll one).

Both of these shows seem like they could easily be silly throwaway SyFy shows, but the talent behind the camera is kind of staggering. This September, the network's programming is certainly worth a peek.
