The trailer for PARANORMAN is a thing of beauty. Set to Donovan’s “Season of the Witch” it strikes the perfect mood for an animated horror film. Each time I see footage it reinforces that this will sit on my shelf right next to MONSTER HOUSE as perfect examples of Halloween viewing.
We don’t see stop-motion animation very often because of the sheer amount of work that goes into creating them. This featurette shows just how much work that actually is. This is a time lapse video of the artists responsible for building just one of the many figures needed to make the film.
Plot: When a small town comes under siege by zombies, who can it call? Only misunderstood local boy Norman, who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he’ll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst, of all, grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse. But this young ghoul whisperer may find his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits.
PARANORMAN looks simultaneously beautiful and horrifying, two qualities that make for great horror movies.
PARANORMAN hits theaters August 171th.
