LIGHTS OUT is yet another genre flick coming at us this summer (is it just me or has this been a solid year, at least in quantity of theatrical horror?), and a new clip has just been released in anticipation of its release two weeks from now. Tapping into our childhood fear of the dark, as I imagine most of this film does, it's a low key but tense piece. That lurking sense of the unknown is very present here.
Frustratingly, I still feel like I don't understand exactly why the boy says "What?" in such a shocked way after his mom asks if they woke him (this clip also appeared, even more out of context, in the trailer), but presumably something terrifying happened just seconds before. We'll just have to wait on the full feature for that one. Check the clip out for yourself below!
Produced by James Wan and written by Eric Heisserer, LIGHTS OUT stars Teresa Palmer and Gabriel Bateman as siblings Rebecca and Martin.
When Rebecca left home, she thought she left her childhood fears behind. Growing up, she was never really sure of what was and wasn’t real when the lights went out… and now her little brother, Martin, is experiencing the same unexplained and terrifying events that had once tested her sanity and threatened her safety. A frightening entity with a mysterious attachment to their mother, Sophie, has reemerged. But this time, as Rebecca gets closer to unlocking the truth, there is no denying that all their lives are in danger… once the lights go out.
The cast also includes Alexander DiPersia, Billy Burke, and Maria Bello.
LIGHTS OUT reaches theatres on July 22nd.
