It was widely reported that IRON MAN 3 would be partially financed by China, and in this new international version of the latest trailer, we can see how they are altering the marketing to appeal to Asian audiences.
Overall, the trailer is pretty much the same thing with a few extended looks, but the biggest addition is the Chinese actors thrown into the cast shots. We get a look at two actors we have not seen previously: Wang Xueqi, who plays Dr. Wu, and Fan Bingbing, a very popular singer and actress in China. We also get a shot of Tony Stark in front of some sort of temple in front of a crowd chanting his name.
While I have no problem with the movie being filmed with different markets in mind, specifically the huge market in China which loves 3D American movies, I wonder if these scenes will remain in the domestic cut of the movie or if they will be exclusive to the version released overseas. It is interesting to see if these scenes flow into the story well or if they feel shoe-horned in. Time will tell.
We also have a new Japanese poster for the movie from the folks at IMP Awards. It is a collection of shots we have seen before and is a pretty kick ass poster. I hope we get a domestic version similar to it.
IRON MAN 3, starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Kingsley, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Jon Favreau, James Badge Dale, and William Sadler hits theaters on May 3, 2013.
