A lot of people see Bruce Willis in action movies and assume he is just playing variations on his DIE HARD character. But, John McClane is a very distinct personality that Willis embodies. There is a snarkiness to his voice and speech that is unique to the character. Sure, Bruce Willis usually plays very similar roles over and over again, but I could tell you blindfolded if a quote was from a DIE HARD movie or any other Willis flick.
It is that uniqueness of the character that makes me excited for A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD. Until now, I was lukewarm to the movie. Sure, the trailer looked better than anything from LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD, but it still didn’t feel quite right to me. Now, having McClane in Russia made me even more hesitant about the movie. But, in this clip, Bruce Willis is channeling the gruff cop from the classic John McTiernan movie and not just a bald man going through the motions.
Check out this clip of McClane going apeshit through the streets of Russia.
Plot: Iconoclastic, take-no-prisoners cop John McClane, for the first time, finds himself on foreign soil after traveling to Moscow to help his wayward son Jack – unaware that Jack is really a highly-trained CIA operative out to stop a nuclear weapons heist. With the Russian underworld in pursuit, and battling a countdown to war, the two McClanes discover that their opposing methods make them unstoppable heroes.
Directed by John Moore, A GOOD DIE TO DIE HARD stars Willis, Jai Courtney, Cole Hauser, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. It opens everywhere on February 14th.
