There have been a ton of new posters and imagery from all of the summer blockbusters already and there does not appear to be any slowing down. Today we have new looks at THE WOLVERINE and STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. Both posters offer something different than what we have seen so far in either film’s marketing, both good and bad.
For THE WOLVERINE, we get a very strange image. Most, if not everyone, knows that Wolverine has adamantium claws, right? And those claws are razor sharp knives, right? And knives are kind of short swords, right? So, correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t it kind of overkill for Wolverine to be brandishing a samurai sword while having his claws extended? I’m just sayin’. This international poster gives us lots of blades.
There is something odd going on with the marketing department at Fox. Every poster for X-MEN: FIRST CLASS was hot garbage and now THE WOLVERINE is suffering a similar fate. I think they need to stop hiring meth-heads with access to Photoshop.
THE WOLVERINE starring Hugh Jackman and directed by James Mangold opens on July 24, 2013.
Next we have a new domestic poster for STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. So far, many have said the marketing for the film has not featured very much STAR TREK imagery. This new poster gives us a look at the Enterprise as it plummets to Earth as seen in the trailers. This is a very iconic image, in my opinion, and speaks volumes about the darkness in the film’s title. Sure, the Enterprise was destroyed before, but the way it looks in the trailers feels more brutal than it has ever before.
STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS opens everywhere, with or without Khanedict Cumberbatch, on May 17, 2013.
