These clips from Lawless prove that Tom Hardy is not to be messed with

LAWLESS is certainly amping up the marketing these days, no doubt to piggy back on the impending star power Tom Hardy will gain from THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. But LAWLESS has the advantage of showing of Hardy’s beautiful face (my wife’s words, not mine).

Synopsis: LAWLESS is the true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers: bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Virginia. In this epic gangster tale, inspired by true-life tales of author Matt Bondurant’s family in his novel “The Wettest County in the World”, the loyalty of three brothers is put to the test against the backdrop of the nation’s most notorious crime wave.

I am looking forward to this more and more with each new tidbit of news. Guy Pearce looks like a psychopath in the best sense of the word. The fact that he has no eyebrows makes me wonder if he is insane or if he is an Observer (FRINGE, anyone?). I am hoping that Hillcoat keeps the focus on Hardy and makes Shia the supporting star, but something tells me it may end up being the other way around. I like Shia as an actor, but he doesn’t hold a candle to Hardy’s intensity.

LAWLESS opens August 29th.
