GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 is going to be a Guardians of the Galaxy movie… No more, no less. Expecting anything different is simply setting yourself up for disappointment.
Allow me to explain… There are a number of fans who think GOTG2 is going to serve some greater purpose in the overall layout of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the latest phase builds towards the Avengers' showdown with Thanos in INFINITY WAR, but, according to James Gunn, those are foolish thoughts. GOTG2 isn't going to be that kind of movie.
“There will be no Infinity Stones in Vol. 2," said Gunn on his Facebook page, and that should have been good enough. But, of course, people never trust the language chosen and have to argue semantics. So when it was then offered up that maybe an Infinity Gauntlet could appear in the film instead, Gunn once again emphatically squashed the speculation. “There will be infinity nothing. It’s a story about the Guardians, and isn’t meant to lead to anything else.”
That means no Infinity Stones, no Infinity Gems, no Infinity Gauntlets, no Infinity pools, no Infinity symbols, no Infiniti cars, no Infinit anything. Put that in the bank. Gunn couldn't be any clearer… times infinity.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 opens on May 5, 2017.
