The X-Files’ Chris Carter talks who might return on both sides of the camera

As you no doubt know by now, The X-Files will return in 2016 as a limited series, with principal stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning. Creator and executive producer Chris Carter will also be back, running the show as he did when the show was on the air from 1993-2002. Details on the new show are, predictably, cloaked in darkness, but Carter recently gave an interview where he revealed just a little about what we can expect.

Talking to X-Files News, Carter revealed that he’s tentatively planning to bring back other major characters from the series (which will shoot in Vancouver, just like the good old days):

“I have ideas for everyone,” he explains at my mention of the possibility of having Mitch Pileggi, Annabeth Gish, and Robert Patrick reprise their iconic roles. “Their availability is subject to their regular paying jobs. Of course, I’d like to bring everyone possible back, but it’s who’s going to fit into the story and who’s available.”

I don’t want to reveal all my tricks, but I can tell you there will be some obvious choices and there will be some surprises.”

But what about the creative team? The original show had a knock out bunch, many of them going onto bigger and better (?) things; perhaps you’ve heard of Vince Gilligan, Howard Gordon, James Wong, Glen Morgan, etc.? Carter is hoping to get some of the gang back together again. Per X-Files News:

When queried about the writers and producers that could join his team, Carter confirms that Glen Morgan will be coming back in a productorial position. “We’ve lured Darin Morgan and Jim Wong, we’re very excited about that and we’re working on the rest.”

Sweet! Now, it’s unlikely Gilligan and Gordon will be back (they work on Better Call Saul and Homeland, respectively), but this is a good start. And yes, in case you were curious, Mark Snow will be back to provide the eerie score.

We should be learning much more about The X-Files’ return in the coming months; the truth is out there, we just need to grab it.
