The Wolverine will be bloodier and unrated for Blu-ray and DVD

Do you know what's been missing from films featuring Wolverine? Violence. Oh, there's scenes of Wolverine using his claws or kicking and punching, but never to the degree that fans have been dying to see. THE WOLVERINE might be grittier, however it probably still isn't at the level that most fans want. After all it is PG-13.

In an interview with Digital Spy, director James Mangold made this fanboy very happy by announcing that when THE WOLVERINE hits Blu-ray there will be an unrated director's cut. This part of the interview is when Mangold was asked if there were any scenes he had to cut from his upcoming film that might make it to Blu-ray and DVD:

I'm very happy with the cut, and the studio was very generous in terms of letting me finish the movie as I wanted, but I do think we will have a slightly more violent version… let's say an unrated, a bloodier version. There's about ten or 12 minutes of scenes that I'd love people to see, that we'll produce some kind of longer version of the movie at some point on Blu-ray or whatever. There's another great scene with Hiro Sanada and a much more elaborate battle with ninjas from the third act that is a pretty huge battle sequence that you'll see.

This doesn't mean that Logan will be decapitating people left and right, but we could see a bit more blood on his claws by the time the film has a home release. If THE WOLVERINE sucks, a bit of red isn't going to help much but if the movie turns out as good as early reviews claim it is, an unrated version of THE WOLVERINE could be phenomenal.

THE WOLVERINE is in theaters Friday!
