This news may not shatter the earth or move any mountains, but it’s enough to get you a little excited and hopeful for the future. Hugh Jackman took some Q&A today on Twitter and responded to the query for an update on THE WOLVERINE that filming is set to begin in August with sound stage work to be filmed in Australia before moving to Japan for on location work.
THE WOLVERINE is being directed by James Mangold after Darren Aronofsky dropped out. The script is written by Christopher McQuarrie (THE USUAL SUSPECTS, WAY OF THE GUN) and has Hugh Jackman reprising the role of Marvel’s favorite mutant, Wolverine, aka Logan, aka James Howlett, aka Patch, aka Runt, aka…you get the idea. Strangely, he’s never called “The” Wolverine in the comics, which makes it a little gimmicky for the movie in my opinion. It’s kind of like calling Batman “THE” Batman, rather than just Batman.
It’s all good, though. I’m hoping they get this one right and erase the lackluster X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, which had its moments, but was a disappointment overall. Even though the loss of Aranofsky was a big blow to the project, I’m hoping that Mangold can “man” up to this and deliver something that doesn’t feel like a hackneyed music video movie.
THE WOLVERINE slices into theaters July 26, 2013.
