As Henry Cavill fans mourn his departure from not one but two prolific roles, actress Minnie Driver has a new way to look at his recasting. The Good Will Hunting actress joins a new cast for the prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin. She plays a shapeshifter named Seanchaí, and she sees the shapeshifting of the casting of Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher not so much as a negative.

IndieWire reports on Driver’s unique perspective of the chance from Cavill to Liam Hemsworth in the role. “We come from this tradition of ‘Doctor Who’ where the Doctor regenerates. I think we need to look at it far more like it’s amazing. It’s an amazing person, it’s an amazing character, and we should have different people playing it.” Driver also has a close, personal connection to Cavill should you think she’s downplaying the whole ordeal about the casting situation as she’s known him since he was a teen, “I love him. He has been the loveliest person, I can attest, since he was a young man. He is divine.”

Cavill is currently fielding some inquiries about his relationship with DC after his announcement to return to the character of Superman was dashed by the newly hired CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran. That news came shortly after news outlets would announce his departure from The Witcher and Hemsworth’s filling of the role. Many have stated the creative differences were too great for Cavill to tolerate and decided to step down.

Meanwhile, in the prequel, The Witcher: Blood Origin, Driver’s character is said to have the possibility of popping up in the main series as well. However, there is still much mystery surrounding her character. Driver explains, “I was like, ‘Alright, so I’m not in every episode.’ It’s less cool, but still, that’s more a them problem than a me problem. But I really like the character. Who wouldn’t want to be a shapeshifting elf? You’ve got to be pretty hardhearted not to want to do that.”

The Witcher: Blood Origin stars Michelle Yeoh, Sophia Brown, and Laurence O’Fuarain. The series is currently available on Netflix.
