HBO is ready to book another vacation as it’s been announced that The White Lotus has been renewed for a second season. Created by Mike White, who wrote and directed every episode, the social satire series follows “the vacations of various hotel guests over the span of a week as they relax and rejuvenate in paradise. But with each passing day, a darker complexity emerges in these picture-perfect travelers, the hotel’s cheerful employees and the idyllic locale itself.“
The six-episode series still has one more episode to go, but HBO has said that the second season of The White Lotus will leave Hawaii “and follows a different group of vacationers as they jet to another White Lotus property and settle in temporarily amongst its inhabitants.” According to HBO, The White Lotus is “currently ranking #1 among all series on HBO Max,” and “has achieved consistent week over week growth for both premiere and digital audience, leading into the finale episode.” The first season stars Connie Britton, Jennifer Coolidge, Alexandra Daddario, Jake Lacy, Murray Barlett, Steve Zahn, and more.
Before HBO officially renewed The White Lotus for a second season, series creator Mike White told TVLine that he had envisioned the show as an anthology series. “It would have to be a different hotel, like say, The White Lotus: San Tropez or something,” White said. As far as any of the cast returning for more, White wasn’t optimistic. “I don’t think you can credibly have [all the Season 1 guests] on the same vacation again,” White said. “But maybe it could be a Marvel universe type thing, where some of them would come back… We only made one-year deals with the actors,” White adds, “so we’d have to find out who is even available.” The season finale of The White Lotus will debut this Sunday.
