The Western lives in a new trailer for Tommy Lee Jones’ The Homesman

Tommy Lee Jones' THE HOMESMAN has him pulling triple duty as writer, director and star of the great looking western drama. It’s been on my radar since last spring when we saw an international trailer back in April. The release date is closing in, and if you’re a fan of great westerns, this looks like it’s going to fit the bill just right. With the trailer and images below you should notice the cinematography by Rodrigo Prieto (see his impressive resume); no wonder the movie looks amazing.

Here’s the official synopsis:

When three women living on the edge of the American frontier are driven mad by harsh pioneer life, the task of saving them falls to the pious, independent-minded Mary Bee Cuddy (Hilary Swank). Transporting the women by covered wagon to Iowa, she soon realizes just how daunting the journey will be, and employs a low-life drifter, George Briggs (Tommy Lee Jones), to join her. The unlikely pair and the three women (Grace Gummer, Miranda Otto, Sonja Richter) head east, where a waiting minister and his wife (Meryl Streep) have offered to take the women in. But the group first must traverse the harsh Nebraska Territories marked by stark beauty, psychological peril and constant threat.

I’m a huge fan of Tommy Lee Jones, as a lot of you are I’m sure. His talent on screen is as impressive as it is behind the camera, and that’s saying a lot. If you haven’t, be sure to check out his TV movie THE SUNSET LIMITED co-starring Samuel L. Jackson or his last western THE THREE BURIALS OF MELQUIADES ESTRADA; both are entertaining and intense pieces of work.

THE HOMESMAN also stars Hailee Steinfeld, Meryl Streep, Tim Blake Nelson, James Spader, William Fichtner, John Lithgow, and Jesse Plemons. It arrives with a limited release on November 14th, 2014.
