Viewers of The Walking Dead may remember a character named Jacqui, although it would be understandable if she has largely slipped your mind. It's been a long time since we saw her – she made her exit from the show on the season one finale (pictured above). She was played by an actress named Jeryl Prescott, and there's a good chance Prescott has crossed your screen in the years since she left The Walking Dead, as she has added more than 30 screen credits to her résumé since then. She has appeared on multiple episodes of shows like Powers and Ray Donovan, and in the Charles Band / Full Moon movie UNLUCKY CHARMS.
Prescott has just closed a deal to add a very interesting new credit to the list, signing on to be a regular on the upcoming Swamp Thing series that's being executive produced by James Wan. She'll be playing Madame Xanadu, "a blind fortune teller with a mysterious past and supernatural perceptions that reveal the future."
She joins a cast that already includes Crystal Reed as "smart and caring CDC Doctor" Abby Arcane; Maria Sten as Abby's bartender friend Liz Tremayne; Jennifer Beals as Sheriff Lucilia Cable, who has dedicated her life to protecting the town of Marais; and Derek Mears as the title character.
It's the idea of getting to see Mears play Swamp Thing that really has me hyped for this show.
Written by Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman, the series will follow Abby, whose
strong sense of empathy puts her at the center of a horrific life-threatening epidemic in her hometown, where she faces emotional demons from her past… while a chance meeting with scientist Alec Holland takes her into a world of horror and the supernatural, and of the elemental creature known as Swamp Thing.
Verheiden and Dauberman are executive producing the series with Wan, Michael Clear, and Len Wiseman, who is also directing the pilot episode.
Swamp Thing will premiere on DC Entertainment's subscription VOD service DC Universe sometime in 2019. This is Wan's second DC collaboration; the AQUAMAN movie he has directed is scheduled to be released on December 21, 2018.
