Corey Hawkins is in the process of, as the kids say, “blowin up.”
The Julliard-trained actor will soon be seen portraying Dr. Dre in STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON (I can attest he’s very good in it), a film sure to make a big impression when it’s released on August 14th, and he’s due to reach an even wider audience in October when he graces the small screen as Heath in AMC’s The Walking Dead (pictured above). Now he’s embarking on what may be his biggest step up yet.
Hawkins has joined KONG: SKULL ISLAND, reports Variety. The film, produced by Legendary Pictures (which incidentally also produced COMPTON), already counts Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson among its stars, with an eye toward getting Russell Crowe to sign up as well. (Last month it lost J.K. Simmons and Michael Keaton due to scheduling conflicts.)
Naturally, no details on Hawkins’ character are available.
Jordan Vogt-Roberts is directing KONG from a script toiled over by Max Borenstein, John Gatins and Dan Gilroy.
