The Walking Dead: World Beyond trailer brings zombies into the future

AMC has unleashed a new trailer for THE WALKING DEAD: WORLD BEYOND, the two-season limited event series created by Scott Gimple and Matthew Negrete. The trailer introduces fans to a group of young survivors called the "Endlings" – Iris (Aliyah Royale), Hope (Alexa Mansour), Elton (Nicolas Cantu), and Silas (Hal Cumpston) – who ten years after the apocalypse, leave their home in Nebraska in search of a better, more stable existence. Unfortunately, the world remains dark and is full of terrors, and so the young explorers will have to face horrors both living and dead if they hope to reach salvation. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly earlier this year, The Walking Dead chief content officer Scott M. Gimple explained what makes World Beyond different from the other shows in the franchise. "The first one is really the situation with which the characters have been living in, relatively, a first-world situation," Gimple said. "Relatively. Because it's focusing on young people, even the 'adults' in this are on the younger side, they've more or less grown up with this. There's a certain everydayness of this to them, though they've been behind walls. It's a very big deal for these characters to leave these walls…. It's an incredible act of bravery for some of these people to potentially step out into the world." Unlike other series in the franchise, World Beyond is set to be released in a limited, two-season format. While some are likely to be upset about the length of the new show, I'd say the limited format suits me just fine. There's little time for the show to outstay its welcome, and the thought of TWD presenting an idea that's complete from the start is something of a relief, no? Let the good times – and the zombie heads – roll!

The Walking Dead: World Beyond will debut on AMC on October 4, 2020, immediately following the tenth season finale of the flagship series.
