The VHS trailer for Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp is great

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER is one of the funniest movies of the last twenty years. Go watch it now so that you aren’t the only person not watching the Netflix prequel WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER: First Day of Camp. Set to debut next month, the eight episode mini-series brings together the huge cast of the first film that includes Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, Christopher Meloni, Janeane Garafolo, Elizabeth Banks, Molly Shannon, David Hyde Pierce, Marguerite Moreau, Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter, Ken Marino, and many more.

Netflix has unveiled a new viral trailer for the series that is presented like an informational video for the fictional Camp Firewood. The trailer looks like it is shot on VHS and includes blurry visuals, tracking bars, and lots of glimpses at the cast in action. While no new plot is divulged here, we do get a look at Christopher Meloni‘s retro hairstyle which is a thing of beauty.

While fourteen years have passed since the original WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER, it is comedic brilliance to reassemble the entire cast to have them all play younger versions of themselves. It could be the bad VHS picture, but most of these actors look exactly the same as they did in 2001. Here’s hoping the series is as funny as the movie.

WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER: First Day of Camp debuts all episodes on Netflix beginning July 31st.
