I haven't played a new Mortal Kombat game since Mortal Kombat 3 reached Super Nintendo in 1995, so it's no surprise to hear that the upcoming MORTAL KOMBAT film is going to feature characters I've never heard of before. And since the movie is being produced by horror mastermind James Wan, it's also no surprise to hear that one of the characters in it is going to be a vampire.
Screenwriter Greg Russo has confirmed that vampiric Kombat fighter Nitara is in the new movie and will be played by stuntwoman Elissa Cadwell. Cadwell performed stunts for THE SHALLOWS and previously worked with Wan on AQUAMAN. Judging by a picture shared on her Twitter account a while back, Cadwell should have no problem kicking people in the face.
According to the Mortal Kombat Wiki,
Nitara is a vampire who, much like Shang Tsung, has to prey on the life of others in order to remain alive, except that she requires blood rather than souls or life energy. Rather than being evil, Nitara is depicted as being rather self-serving and morally neutral. She has a distinctly gothic appearance, and has long been on a quest to separate her own realm from Outworld.
Well, I've never seen Nitara in action in a game, but it should be fun to watch a winged vampire fighting characters I am familiar with in the movie.
Simon McQuoid is making his feature directorial debut with MORTAL KOMBAT. The story centers on
a male protagonist who becomes drawn into the interdimensional tournament, and begins to realize his true potential as a result.
Wan is producing the film with Todd Garner. Larry Kasanoff, E. Bennett Walsh, Michael Clear, and Sean Robins serve as executive producers.
Cadwell joins a cast that includes Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Sisi Stringer as Mileena, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, and Lewis Tan in an unspecified role.
The MORTAL KOMBAT reboot is set to reach theatres on March 5, 2021.
