Netflix’s The Unforgivable trailer is about to take you down a dark road of twists and turns. In the upcoming adaptation of Sally Wainwright’s 2009 ITV miniseries Unforgiven, Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock plays Ruth Slater, a woman released from prison after serving a sentence for murdering two police officers when she was 17. Now that she’s served her time, Slater attempts to re-enter society but finds that her community is as unforgiving as the prison system itself. While keeping her head down and her mind focused, Slater attempts to locate her estranged younger sister that she was forced to leave behind.
In The Unforgivable trailer, we find Slater looking to pick up the pieces of her old life after 20 years of incarceration for her crimes. While she’s not looking for sympathy from her fellow townsfolk, Slater finds that some people from her past have made it their mission to make her feel uninvited. While searching for her sister, Slater is continually harassed, receives threatening phone calls, and members of local law enforcement loom over her like a shadow. It’s enough to make anyone want to run and hide, but Slater has wrongs to right with the person that matters most, and sometimes, that’s enough to keep a person going through the worst of what life can throw at you.
Directed by Nora Fingscheidt and co-written by Peter Craig, Hillary Seitz, and Courtenay Miles, The Unforgivable also stars Vincent D’Onofrio, Jon Bernthal, Aisling Franciosi, Rob Morgan, Richard Thomas, Linda Emond, and Emma Nelson. In addition to her starring role, Bullock also produces with Veronica Ferres and Graham King.
The Unforgivable trailer looks like the film could set Bullock up for one of her most powerful performances to date. My advice is to buckle your seatbelt for this one because it looks like things are going to get rough before they get better.
The Unforgivable releases in select U.S. theaters on Nov. 24 and drops on Netflix on Dec. 10th.
