Ewan McGregor makes his directorial debut with AMERICAN PASTORAL, which follows Seymour “Swede” Levov, a once legendary high school athlete who is now a successful businessman married to Dawn (Jennifer Connelly), a former beauty queen. But turmoil brews beneath the polished veneer of Swede’s life. When his beloved teenage daughter, Merry (Dakota Fanning), disappears after being accused of committing a violent act, Swede dedicates himself to finding her and reuniting his family.
I'm always rather curious to see why an actor is willing to step behind the camera to direct a film. PASTORAL looks like a solid family drama with some bite, but I really liked how the trailer was devoid of all dialogue with the music carrying the gist of the story across. I'm not sure it's going to blow people away, but it's got my attention.
AMERICAN PASTORAL will open in theaters on October 28, 2016.
