Wes Anderson fans will no doubt be satisfied with the first trailer for THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL as it is chock full of the director's signature quirky style. Starring many of his familiar rogues, including Jason Schwartzman, Edward Norton, Willem Dafoe, Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, and Jeff Goldblum, the film also adds some new faces to Anderson's gallery with F. Murray Abraham, Harvey Keitel, Saoirse Ronan, Jude Law, Tom Wilkinson, and the star of it all, Ralph Fiennes. Another signature cast for what looks like a another solid entry in Anderson's repertoire.
Get your hands off my lobby boy!:
Here's the synopsis:
THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL recounts the adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend. The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting and the battle for an enormous family fortune — all against the back-drop of a suddenly and dramatically changing Continent.
I'm an unabashed fan of Anderson's, so it's impossible to judge this without already being on board for it. Anderson has a unique style that most naysayers like to call "hipster" or some such shit and that's fine. Anytime you have a style that goes well beyond the norm you're going to face that kind of criticism, which usually creates a love or hate reaction. For me, it's the former, but I'm always curious what those who aren't familiar with Anderson's work feel when seeing something like this.
You can check in to THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL on March 7, 2014.
