Director Noah Baumbach and writer/actress Greta Gerwig crafted a hell of a film in FRANCES HA, and the two have reunited for the upcoming MISTRESS AMERICA. The story follows that of Tracy (Lola Kirke), a lonely college freshman in New York, who has neither the exciting university experience nor the glamorous metropolitan lifestyle she envisioned. She is then taken in by her soon-to-be stepsister, Brooke (Greta Gerwig), a resident of Times Square and adventurous gal about town, who seemingly rescues Tracy from disappointment and seduces her with alluringly mad schemes.
Noah Baumbach (WHILE WE'RE YOUNG, GREENBERG) has been hit or miss for me, but I found FRANCES HA to be such a breath of fresh air thanks to actress Greta Gerwig. Since then, I've been eagerly anticipating her next scripted film and it looks like her collaboration with Baumbach will deliver. You can check out our Sundance review here, but in the meantime, hit up FRANCES HA on Netflix if you haven't had the pleasure!
MISTRESS AMERICA opens in select theaters on August 14, 2015.
