"We are no one. We are everyone. We are invisible."
Surprise! HBO has dropped an official teaser trailer for Damon Lindelof's WATCHMEN TV series and it's every bit as dark, strange, and forebodingly violent as you'd like!
In the past, Lindelof has stated that his WATCHMEN will not be a direct adaptation of the Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons-created cult classic series, but rather a "remix" of the Watchmen world we all know and have come to love. While the trailer does little to detail the plot of HBO's upcoming series, it does show us what looks to be a group of Rorschach-inspired rebellion, faceless authority figures, and heroes looking to find their place in a world overtaken by law, order, and paranoia.
From what I can gather, Lindelof's WATCHMEN looks to be something of a follow-up to Moore and Gibbons' original story. I say this because in the trailer, we see what looks like a group of one-percenter cultists using Rorschach's blotted look to obscure their faces. My guess is that they're in direct opposition to the yellow-faced police state, birthed by fear after the original Watchmen team and their enemies were exposed to the world.
Now, if I were you, I would take what I'd just said with a grain of salt, as no official plot details for the series have yet to be revealed. It's also been a dog's age since I've read the original graphic novel or have watched Zack Snyder's 2009 near panel-perfect version of the Watchmen events.
Set to star in the series are actors Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Don Johnson, Fraces Fisher, Adelaide Clemens, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Andrew Howard, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Louis Gosset Jr. and Tim Blake Nelson.
Lindelof will serve as the creator, showrunner, writer, and executive producer of HBO's WATCHMEN, with Tom Spezialy, Stephen Williams, and Joseph Iberti also executive producing. Meanwhile, Nicole Kassell will executive produce and direct the pilot. While the series has yet to announce an official release date, the show is expected to premiere on HBO in the Fall of this year.
