THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN remake has just been announced as a participant in the Final Wave of Programming at this year’s Fantastic Fest, and in conjunction with the announcement we’ve got the trailer and poster for the flick!
Based on a terrifying true story, The Town That Dreaded Sundown picks up sixty-five years after a masked serial killer terrorized the small town of Texarkana, when the “moonlight murders” begin again. Is it a copycat or something even more sinister? A lonely high school girl, with dark secrets of her own, may be the key to catching the murderer.
While it certainly looks like a competent, well-shot slasher, I also can’t help but feel it resembles one of the many SCREAM ripoffs we endured back in the late-90s. Remember those days? Hopefully, this trailer is signaling a much better film than most of those were.
Alfonso Gomez-Rejon directed the remake, which was produced by Jason Blum (Insidious, Sinister) and Ryan Murphy (“American Horror Story”). It will be released on October 16th.
