The Titans assemble in new image from the DC Universe series

When the DC Universe streaming service arrives, its first original series will be Titans, a darker and more serialized take on the superhero team consisting of Robin/Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites), Raven/Rachel Roth (Teagan Croft), Starfire/Koriand’r (Anna Diop), and Beast Boy/Gar Logan (Ryan Potter) as they fight an evil threatening one of their own — and the world.

A new image of the dysfunctional team has been revealed by Entertainment Weekly, which you can check out below.

Robin, Raven, Starfire, and Beast Boy aren't the only heroes to be found in Titans, as the series will also find the team crossing paths with Hawk (Alan Ritchson) and Dove (Minka Kelly), the members of Doom Patrol, Wonder Girl Donna Troy (Conor Leslie), and none other than Jason Todd (Curran Walters), Batman’s current sidekick. "Jason Todd thinks being Robin is the coolest thing that could ever happen to somebody, and Dick’s experience is vastly different," executive produce Geoff Johns teased. Judging by Dick Grayson's "f**k, Batman" comment in the Titans trailer, it's probably safe to say that his relationship with the Dark Knight isn't the best, and Titans showrunner Greg Walker gave IGN some insight into the differences between Dick Grayson and Jason Todd.

What I really love about [Jason] as a character is the unbridled sense of self that he has – there’s a lack of… maybe self-awareness, but for sure self-consciousness in terms of how he comports himself and how he moves through the world. He’s completely seemingly unaffected by darkness – he kind of embraces it or walks right through it. He’s a breath of fresh air and that’s what I love about him, he’s got a punk rock, no-holds-barred attitude that’s massively unburdened. There’s a lot of energy that comes with that… The whole thing is a study in contrasts between the two Robins and the the ways that they were raised, or how the shadow – or lack of shadow – hangs over the two of them individually. It’s so frustrating to see someone who isn’t bothered by someone else the way you are… like, 'how are you not bothered by that? Why doesn’t that screw you up?' There’s something confusing and challenging and unsettling about that for Dick.

IGN also shared two photos of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd facing off.

Given that Titans will include several members of the Bat-family, there's a question of whether Bruce Wayne/Batman will also appear in the series. "Bruce looms large in our show – both Bruce and Batman, if you want to separate them, and the show does to some degree," Walker teased. "We’re not a Batman show, and that’s for a number of reasons, but I think we definitely want to show the relationship between Bruce and Dick just simply as an origin story. If the show does anything, it sets up Dick’s thesis about who Bruce/Batman is and then attempts to question it along the way."

Titans will premiere on DC Universe on October 12, 2018.
