The third season of The Mandalorian is already in the works at Disney+

We've still got many months ahead of us until the release of the second season of The Mandalorian on Disney+, but Variety has word that pre-production on the third season of the Star Wars TV series has already begun. Given just how successful the series became after its launch last November, it's not the biggest surprise that we'll be getting another season, but it's certainly a welcome one.

Variety's sources have said that The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau has been "writing season 3 for a while" and that the art department has been whipping up concept-art for the third season for "the past few weeks." One source said, "We've just started pre-production and are looking into further adventures for the Mandalorian in Season 3." Given just how much work goes into crafting the various worlds, creatures, and droids of The Mandalorian, you can understand why the design department has gotten such an early start on the new season.

Production on the second season of The Mandalorian wrapped up a little over a month ago, which means that they were able to avoid having to shut down due to the spread of COVID-19. The second season will obviously feature the return of the titular Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal), as well as Baby Yoda (himself), Cara Dune (Gina Carano), and Greef Karga (Carl Weathers). New additions to the cast include Michael Biehn as a bounty hunter as well as Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker's former Jedi Padawan who first appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. There are also rumours going around that Jamie Lee Curtis will also make an appearance. The second season of The Mandalorian will debut on Disney+ in October 2020.
