The Thing (2002): Playing with Fear looks back at film-inspired game

A new episode of our Playing with Fear video series has been released, and in this one we’re looking back at The Thing, the 2002 video game that serves as a follow-up to John Carpenter’s classic 1982 sci-fi horror film also titled The Thing (watch it HERE). Playing with Fear writer/narrator Andrew Hatfield describes the Thing video game as “an exciting, true-to-the-film experience”; and you can find out what else he has to say about the game by watching the video in the embed above!

The Playing with Fear series is all about

the horror video games that have influenced the genre, whether that be through their stellar gameplay, characters, story, or a combination of elements. Join our host, Andrew Hatfield, as he dives into the history of how this franchise came to be, and all the games it inspired in the process.

The Thing (2002) has the following synopsis:

In the frozen wastelands of Antarctica, a mysterious, shape-shifting alien life form has wiped out an American scientific outpost. You’re the leader of a military rescue team sent to investigate the carnage. Trapped by the elements and infected by a horrific enemy, you must keep your squad together.

This is one of the rare games that I have actually played, and I really enjoyed it… up until I reached a boss I couldn’t figure out how to beat. I was never able to finish the game because of that one douchebag monster.

The The Thing episode of Playing with Fear was Edited by Tyler Nichols, Produced by John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian. As mentioned, Andrew Hatfield wrote and narrated.
