We learned a few months back that the next TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE film would be a prequel to Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic and would be called LEATHERFACE. Seth M. Sherwood is writing the upcoming movie which has now landed itself two directors. Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, the duo behind INSIDE and LIVID will helm the horror tale. I checked those titles out on IMDb and they certainly give me faith that they will have a lot of fun with this one.
Here’s the current synopsis:
In this prequel to “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” a young nurse is kidnapped by four violent teens who escape from a mental hospital and take her on a road trip from hell. Pursued by an equally deranged lawman out for revenge, one of these teens is destined for tragedy and horrors that will destroy his mind; molding him into the monster we now call Leatherface.
That sounds like a different direction and a good starting point considering the messy timeline we are stuck with at the moment. There’s still hope for this franchise, it just needs offer something new. I understand what TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D tried to do, but it had nothing to say and offered only pointless clichés. However, the movie did give us an excuse to look at Alexandra Daddario – and that's alright.
