Another round of the death-defying stunts and thrilling action-sequences which are the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE franchise's bread and butter is well on the way. Filming in New Zealand recently wrapped and the production team will soon be moving on to London, but MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6 star Tom Cruise took to Twitter to bid farewell to New Zealand and its people. "Thank you to the amazing people of New Zealand," said Cruise. "I've had a great time filming the next Mission: Impossible here." The actor also took the opportunity to share a photo of a few members of the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6 team, including Rebecca Ferguson as IIsa Faust, Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, Simon Pegg as Benjamin Dunn, and, of course, Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt.

We still don't know all that much about what impossible mission Tom Cruise and company will be tackling in the upcoming sequel, but MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6 director Christopher McQuarrie has promised that the film will present us with a "very different" Ethan Hunt as it will dive deeper into his character than any of the previous movies have.

I’ve seen five of these movies and I don’t know who Ethan Hunt is. One movie sort of dealt with his personal life; the other movies are about people speculating what’s really going on in Ethan’s head. I want to know who Ethan is in this movie, I want an emotional journey for this character, and Tom really embraced it. I don’t want to string together a bunch of action scenes, I want to actually deal with character’. So I put Ethan in a bunch of complicated moral quandaries, and I’m trying to find ways to connect them – and then, ironically, the way to connect them was through giant action scenes.

As with the previous installments of the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE franchise, the upcoming sequel will contain some incredible action-sequences, and Skydance Media CEO David Ellison has promised that they will "top anything that's come before." Ellison called one particular stunt sequence, which Tom Cruise has spent a year training for, the "most impressive and unbelievable thing that Tom Cruise has done in a movie, and he has been working on it since right after Rogue Nation came out. It’s gonna be mind-blowing." Sounds pretty damn impressive.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6 is set for a July 27, 2018 release.
