It looks like David Ayer's THE TAX COLLECTOR is a hit – or at least as much of a hit as you can be in a COVID-19 world. According to reports, the gangster flick made $317,00 from 129 theaters this weekend, knocking the champ from the last two weeks in a row – THE RENTAL – into second place. What's even more relevant – I think – is the fact that Ayer's film also topped many of the weekend's VOD charts, with the film – according to Forbes – topping Google Play and the iTunes charts, while it's in second place behind the Katie Holmes vehicle THE SECRET – DARE TO DREAM, on FandangoNow.
While I'm not sure exactly how much revenue this translates into (Variety estimates $1 million in sales), it seems people are intrigued by the film, which stars Bobby Soto and Shia LaBeouf, who infamously tattooed his whole torso for what amounts to a secondary role – with no shirtless scene that shows off the tats to boot! Nevertheless, I enjoyed it (check out my review)
