The Russian sci-fi horror thriller The Superdeep has been available to watch on the Shudder streaming service since last June, but if you’ve been waiting to hear when you’ll have a chance to own a physical media copy of the film, we have some good news to share today: RLJE Films will be giving The Superdeep a DVD and Blu-ray release on January 4th. On that same date, they’ll also be releasing the film on VOD and Digital HD.

Directed by Arseniy Sukhin (Lockout) from a screenplay written by Victor Bondaryuk (Deadly Still), The Superdeep was inspired by true events. The film has the following synopsis:

The Russian Kola Superdeep Borehole is the largest drilling project in the world, attempting to drill as far as possible into the Earth’s crust. After reaching depths of nearly seven miles below the surface, unexplained sounds resembling the screams and moans of numerous people were reported and the borehole was shut down. But when a small team of scientists and military personnel set out to unearth the source of the strange sounds, they end up discovering the greatest threat that humanity has ever faced.

The Superdeep stars Milena Radulovic (The Balkan Line), Nikita Dyuvbanov (Abigail), Kirill Kovbas (Ikariya), Vadim Demchog (Son of a Rich), and Sergey Ivanyuk (Z’olushka).

Special features on the physical media release will include the featurette “The Superdeep SFX by Galaxy Effects.”

Although I have a Shudder subscription from time to time, I haven’t gotten around to watching The Superdeep yet. It sounds interesting, so I might have to check it out soon. The next time I renew my subscription to watch some more Joe Bob Briggs, The Superdeep will go on my watch list.
