Wa-hoo! The Super Mario Bros. Movie is leaping from the silver screen to a television near you now that the billion-dollar blockbuster is officially available for digital purchase through Vudu, Fandango‘s premium on-demand video service. You can purchase Mario’s first sensational trip into the Mushroom Kingdom on Vudu starting May 16 (today) in SD, HD, and UHD for $29.99.
“While working underground to fix a water main, Brooklyn plumbers Mario (Chris Pratt) and brother Luigi (Charlie Day) are transported down a mysterious pipe and wander into a magical new world,” reads the official synopsis. “But when the brothers are separated, Mario embarks on an epic quest to find Luigi. With the assistance of a Mushroom Kingdom resident Toad (Keegan-Michael Key) and some training from the strong-willed ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy), Mario taps into his own power.”
In addition to Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, The Super Marios Bros Movie also features the voices of Jack Black as Bowser, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. Also, there’s a special voice appearance by Charlies Martinet, who has voiced Mario and Luigi in the Super Mario video games for over thirty years!
The Super Mario Bros. Movie still earns significant dollars at the box office, with $1.2B+ in gold coins collected. Before the film debuted on Vudu, some jerk uploaded the entire movie to Twitter. The post, which mods deleted after being available for several hours, was captioned with, “F*ck it, the whole super Mario bros movies,” along with a popcorn emoji. The account may have more than 1 million followers, but Forbes reports that over 9 million users accessed the Illumination movie. If we’re talking monetary loss here, with an average movie ticket of roughly $11, that’s around $99 million of missed box office revenue.
Parents will be thrilled to learn The Super Mario Bros. Movie is on Vudu. They can invite the whole neighborhood over after making a $30 purchase and leave the film on repeat if desired. That’s much cheaper than schlepping the whole crew to the theater, where the cost of tickets and snacks is waiting to take a big, wet bite out of everyone’s wallet. Let’s-a-go!
