The Suicide Squad, James Gunn, R-rated

Although there had been rumours that David Ayer's Suicide Squad would be rated R, the final film remained firmly in the realm of PG-13, with Ayer confirming last year that an R-rating was never in the cards. With James Gunn taking over the reins for The Suicide Squad, similar rumours and comments from the cast and crew emerged that the sequel was also aiming for an R-rating, but this time around, it would seem those rumours are correct.

When asked on Twitter whether or not The Suicide Squad would be rated R, James Gunn confirmed that it would be.

Gunn is also working on The Suicide Squad spin-off TV series focusing on John Cena's Peacemaker character and recently responded to rumours that the series would also air on The CW in addition to HBO Max. It would seem that Peacemaker will be similarly filthy as Gunn said, "If we edited it for broadcast TV it would be forty seconds long." The Suicide Squad is slated to hit theaters on August 6, 2021.
