The Suicide Squad has now been unleashed in theaters which means that fans have finally been introduced to James Gunn’s wild menagerie of wacky supervillains. There were plenty of standouts, with my personal favourite being David Dastmalchian’s Polka Dot Man, but I may have to rethink that now that Polka Dot Cat is a thing.
David Dastmalchian took to Instagram to explain how he came to adopt a cat while shooting The Suicide Squad in Panama with the help of his Suicide Squad family and some generous animal lovers. The cat’s full name is Abner Bubblegum Polka Dot Cat, and Dastmalchian said that she’s “been a blessing to our family & was instrumental in helping us through the pandemic.” That’s very sweet, but Bubblegum also sports her own Polka Dot Man suit courtesy of The Suicide Squad costume designer Judianna Makovsky. Check out the adorable photos below.
Oh. My. Goodness. I love Abner Bubblegum Polka Dot Cat. Methinks Warner Bros. should get going on a line of Suicide Squad pet costumes as soon as possible.
The official synopsis for The Suicide Squad:
Welcome to hell — a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese.
The Suicide Squad is now playing in theaters and streaming on HBO Max. Be sure to check out a review from our own JimmyO and let us know what you thought of the film as well.
