A couple years ago, director Coralie Fargeat made her feature directorial debut with a very cool revenge movie that was appropriately titled Revenge – you can check out the trailer in the embed above, and read our 8/10 review of the film at THIS LINK. Now Deadline is reporting the great news that Fargeat has her second feature film set up at Universal Pictures and Working Title Films, and the lead roles have already been cast! Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley have signed on to star in Fargeat’s new movie, which is going by the title The Substance.
Which immediately makes me think of The Stuff.
Details on the characters Moore and Qualley will be playing were not revealed, and plot details are being kept under wraps as well. All that we know about this project is that it’s described as being an
explosive feminist take on body horror.
Fargeat, body horror, Moore and Qualley… Okay, I’m sold on The Substance already.
Fargeat is producing The Substance with Working Title partners Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan. Alexandra Loewy and Nicolas Royer serve as executive producers, while Universal Pictures Senior Executive VP Production Development Erik Baiers will be overseeing the project for the studio.
Demi Moore has over forty years of acting credits to her name at this point, with roles in films like Corporate Animals, Mr. Brooks, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, G.I. Jane, Striptease, Disclosure, Indecent Proposal, A Few Good Men, Nothing But Trouble, Ghost, The Seventh Sign, One Crazy Summer, About Last Night, St. Elmo’s Fire, and Charles Band’s Parasite. Margaret Qualley has been building an impressive résumé over the last nine years, with roles in The Nice Guys, The Leftovers, Death Note, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Maid, among others.
We’ll keep you updated on The Substance as more information is made available.
