Beyond George Lucas, there are many people to thank for the existence fo STAR WARS, but had it not been for Ralph McQuarrie's visionary concept art, the franchise we all know and love may very well have never happened. McQuarrie was the first person who Lucas hired to help him envision STAR WARS, and the artist wound up designing and inspiring many of the franchise's major characters and locations. However, at this point in its history, STAR WARS was quite different to what it would become, with Han Solo seen as as a large, green-skinned monster with gills and stormtroopers wielding lightsabers. Although much was changed by the time STAR WARS arrived in theaters, Ralph McQuarrie's beautiful work has inspired generations, and the students at The DAVE School have imagined what STAR WARS might have looked like if the film had stayed true to Ralph McQuarrie's concepts.
I really feel like breaking out my Ralph McQuarrie books now, what a fantastic concept. It'd be great to see THE STAR WARS realized on a larger scale, perhaps with a little more money behind it. At the very least, it serves as a tasty little appetizer before STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is released on Friday. The Rian Johnson film has been receiving some extremely favourable reviews which has fans quite excited, myself included, so be sure to check out our own Eric Walkuski's review of STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI!
