THE NEW MUTANTS director Josh Boone and CBS All Access' 10-episode limited series adaptation of Stephen King's THE STAND has cast some of its leads. James Marsden (WESTWORLD, STRAW DOGS) will play Stu Redman, Amber Heard (AQUAMAN, ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE) will play Nadine Cross, Whoopi Goldberg (GHOST) will play Mother Abagail, and Greg Kinnear (THE TWILIGHT ZONE) will play Glen Bateman.
Also Odessa Young (ASSASSINATION NATION) will play Frannie Goldsmith, and Henry Zaga (THE NEW MUTANTS) will play Nick Andros.
Notable roles yet to cast include Lloyd Henreid, Harold Lauder, Trashcan Man, Larry Underwood, Tom Cullen, and of course, Randall Flagg. That said, this cast looks pretty solid at the time some I'm excited to hear who's playing the other roles soon. What do you think of this casting so far? Make sure to hit us up and let us know below!
King recently talked a bit about the upcoming adaptation, saying:
Really the thing I’m most excited about is, first of all, we’ve got two more hours to tell the story. And second, we’re free of all those things that held us back with [the original mini-series]. Not only is the budget bigger… we’re free… in terms of language, in terms of violence… in a way that we weren’t with the original. CBS All Access would really like this to work. And they’ve put a lot of muscle behind it. So I’m hopeful. But it’s early days yet… so. The casting isn’t complete. My son Owen has written some of the scripts, and they’re terrific.
Boone and Ben Cavell executive produce with Roy Lee, Jimmy Miller, and Richard P. Rubinstein. Will Weiske and Miri Yoon are co-executive producers and Owen King will produce. How excited are you to hear that THE STAND is finally coming (back) to your TV screen? Let us know below!
