The Spierig brothers’ Winchester gets a longer title and new release date

Sibling directing duo  Michael and Peter Spierig are going to have two different movies in theatres less than four months apart. Their SAW franchise revival JIGSAW is being released later this month, then February will see the release of their haunted house story WINCHESTER.

WINCHESTER is not a feature based on the television series Supernatural, but rather a film inspired by true events. Helen Mirren stars as 

firearm heiress Sarah Winchester, who was convinced that she was haunted by the souls killed at the hands of the Winchester Repeating Rifle. After the sudden deaths of her husband and child, she threw herself into the 24-hours a day, seven days a week construction of an enormous mansion designed to keep the evil spirits at bay. But when skeptical San Francisco psychiatrist Eric Price is dispatched to the estate to evaluate her state of mind, he discovers that her obsession may not be so insane after all. The film will take audiences inside the labyrinth-like house that is believed to be one of the most haunted places in the world.

Jason Clarke co-stars as Eric Price. Also in the cast are Sarah Snook and Angus Sampson.

When we last shared news about WINCHESTER, it had just been scheduled for a February 23rd, 2018 release. Lionsgate and CBS Films have now changed that plan, moving the theatrical release of the film forward by three weeks. WINCHESTER will now reach theatres on February 2nd.

And just to make sure that moviegoers know this is a horror story, the title has also been expanded to reference the haunted house aspect. The film is now being called WINCHESTER: THE HOUSE THAT GHOSTS BUILT.
