Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, sequel

SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE was a huge success for Sony, earning rave reviews as well as scoring awards for Best Animated Feature Film at both the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards. Naturally, the studio was quick to get the ball rolling on a sequel, which they've now announced will hit theaters on April 8, 2022.

The SPIDER-VERSE sequel will be helmed by Joaquim Dos Santos (Avatar: The Last Airbender) and scripted by David Callaham (WONDER WOMAN 1984) and continue the story of Miles Morales (Shameik Moore). As far as what the sequel has in store for us, it's hard to say at this point, but producer Amy Pascal has previously said that the sequel could explore a romance between Miles Morales (Moore) and Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld). In addition to the sequel, there's also a SPIDER-VERSE spin-off in the works which will be centered around various Spider-Women and Amy Pascal confirmed that it will feature Spider-Gwen, Cindy Moon (Silk), and Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman). "I think it’s great that we’re going to be able to tell movies about female superheroes in this realm, and in the live-action realm as well, because I believe that there are going to be characters that really resonate for people," Pascal said. "They’re funny and quirky and different, and heroic in all kinds of different ways that only animation allows you to do."
