As pretty much everyone knows, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR came to an end with Thanos (Josh Brolin) emerging triumphant as he successfully used the Infinity Stones to turn half of the universe's population to dust, which included Marvel Cinematic Universe characters such as Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), and more.
It's hard to imagine AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR ending any other way at this point, but INFINITY WAR co-writer Stephen McFeely spoke with Empire recently where he revealed that they considered saving The Snap for AVENGERS: ENDGAME. "We had so much story in those early drafts of Infinity War that, if anything, we thought we maybe shouldn’t do The Snap until the end of act one of Endgame," McFeely said. It's hard to say where INFINITY WAR would have ended if they had saved The Snap for ENDGAME, perhaps with the death of Gamora (Zoe Saldana) or Thanos finally collecting all of the Infinity Stones, but I'm sure most of us wouldn't trade that for the shocking ending which we did get. Even though INFINITY WAR screenwriters Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus may have briefly debated the placement of The Snap in the two-film epic, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige always knew how he wanted the film to end.
We talked about that ending for years and years and years. It was the reason to adapt Infinity Gauntlet. What was the most shocking thing we could do? End the movie with The Snap.
AVENGERS: ENDGAME will hit theaters on April 26, 2019.
