Last Updated on July 30, 2021

When you reveal your thoughts and struggles to a therapist, you assume that the person you're speaking to has your best interests at heart, but they're every bit as human as you are and are susceptible to the same dark desires. Based upon the podcast of the same name, The Shrink Next Door tells the true tale of Dr. Isaac "Ike" Herschkopf (Paul Rudd) as he slowly inserts himself into the life of his longtime patient Martin "Marty" Markowitz (Will Ferrell). The official synopsis for The Shrink Next Door:

Inspired by true events, “The Shrink Next Door” details the bizarre relationship between psychiatrist to the stars Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf (played by Rudd) and his longtime patient Martin “Marty” Markowitz (played by Ferrell). Over the course of their relationship, the all-too-charming Ike slowly inserts himself into Marty’s life, even moving into Marty’s Hamptons home and persuading Marty to name him president of the family business. The series explores how a seemingly normal doctor-patient dynamic morphs into an exploitative relationship filled with manipulation, power grabs, and dysfunction at its finest.

The eight-episode limited series also stars Kathryn Hahn as Phyllis, Marty's younger sister, and Casey Wilson as Bonnie, Dr. Herschkopf's wife. Directed by Michael Showalter and Jesse Peretz, and based on the script by Georgia Pritchett, the first three episodes of The Shrink Next Door will debut on Apple TV+ on November 12, 2021, with new episodes dropping every Friday.
