The Sherlock mythos gets a fun twist in the full Enola Holmes trailer

Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown is going from the arcades of Hawkins, Indiana to the streets of Merrie Olde Englande for ENOLA HOLMES, an upcoming mystery adventure that breathes new life into the mythos of Sherlock Holmes. Based on the wildly entertaining and imaginative book series by author Nancy Springer, Enola Holmes introduces the world to a 16-year-old sleuth who's just as clever as her brothers, and she's not about to let the disappearance of her beloved mother go unchecked.

Here's the full synopsis for ENOLA HOLMES:

England, 1884 – a world on the brink of change. On the morning of her 16th birthday, Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown) wakes to find that her mother (Helena Bonham Carter) has disappeared, leaving behind an odd assortment of gifts but no apparent clue as to where she’s gone or why. After a free-spirited childhood, Enola suddenly finds herself under the care of her brothers Sherlock (Henry Cavill) and Mycroft (Sam Claflin), both set on sending her away to a finishing school for “proper” young ladies. Refusing to follow their wishes, Enola escapes to search for her mother in London. But when her journey finds her entangled in a mystery surrounding a young runaway Lord (Louis Partridge), Enola becomes a super-sleuth in her own right, outwitting her famous brother as she unravels a conspiracy that threatens to set back the course of history. Based on the beloved book series by Nancy Springer, ENOLA HOLMES is a dynamic new mystery-adventure that introduces the world’s greatest detective to his fiercest competition yet: his teenage sister. The game is afoot.

Directed by Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag, Killing Eve) from a script penned by Jack Thorne (Wonder, The Fades), Enola Holmes also stars Henry Cavill (Man of Steel, The Witcher) as Sherlock Holmes, Sam Clafin (Adrift, Snow White and the Huntsman) as Mycroft Holmes, and Helena Bonham Carter (Ocean's 8, Fight Club) as Mrs. Holmes.

Back in June, Bradbeer told Total Film that ENOLA HOLMES struck him as "a fresh approach in a number of ways" compared to the other Holmes-related adaptations over the years. "There was the fact that there was a sister that people probably hadn’t considered existed, and that automatically brings the whole feminist stance and a feminist angle on the Holmes story, which was particularly interesting to me, as Holmes was thought of as being someone who was a little bit of a misogynist," Bradbeer added.

The game will be afoot when ENOLA HOLMES sleuths onto Netflix this September 23.
