Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ big-budget exorcism fantasy THE SEVENTH SON looks like it’s in trouble. There’s no official word on that score, but the film has once again been pushed back a significant amount of time; could be that it’s avoiding competition, but it’s more likely that the film has issues that still need sorting out.
The movie, which stars Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore as a knight and a witch, respectively, was originally slated to open on February 15th of this year. Last May, it was pushed to October 18th, a delay of eight months. But that was not enough: THE SEVENTH SON has now been moved to January 17, 2014.
So that’s almost one year since its original release date (it wrapped principal photography in July 2012). A bad omen for this demonic film? We’ll see…
Here’s the synopsis for the film, directed by Sergey Bodrov:
In a time long past, an evil is about to be unleashed that will reignite the war between the forces of the supernatural and humankind once more. Master Gregory is a knight who had imprisoned the malevolently powerful witch, Mother Malkin, centuries ago. But now she has escaped and is seeking vengeance. Summoning her followers of every incarnation, Mother Malkin is preparing to unleash her terrible wrath on an unsuspecting world. Only one thing stands in her way: Master Gregory.
In a deadly reunion, Gregory comes face to face with the evil he always feared would someday return. Now he has only until the next full moon to do what usually takes years: train his new apprentice, Tom Ward to fight a dark magic unlike any other. Man’s only hope lies in the seventh son of a seventh son.
