Back when the initial trailer for THE INTERNSHIP was released, I said it looked like a PG-13 version of OLD SCHOOL. This new trailer does not do much to change that perspective. Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn are an awesome team in WEDDING CRASHES, so having them reunite for this holds expectations that they will deliver a raunchy, hilarious follow-up. But, for some reason this feels almost like something Adam Sandler would appear in. I hope when the movie is finally released, I am proven wrong.
Here’s the synopsis:
Billy (Vince Vaughn) and Nick (Owen Wilson) are salesmen whose careers have been torpedoed by the digital world. Trying to prove they are not obsolete, they defy the odds by talking their way into a coveted internship at Google, along with a battalion of brilliant college students. But, gaining entrance to this utopia is only half the battle. Now they must compete with a group of the nation’s most elite, tech-savvy geniuses to prove that necessity really is the mother of re-invention.
The concept is definitely timely for our current economic conditions, but it almost feels like a commercial for Google. The campus featured in the film is a set and not the actual Google offices, but Google did give input on how their company is setup. So, this is a fictional vision of the web company that gives them free advertising. If anything, I will see this for the promised cameo from Will Ferrell.
Costarring Rose Byrne, Aasif Maandvi, Jessica Szohr, Josh Gad, Max Minghella, and John Goodman, THE INTERNSHIP opens June 7, 2013
