The Season of Passage: Mike Flanagan to direct Christopher Pike adaptation

Mike Flanagan, one of the most popular (and busiest) directors working in the horror world today, has just lined up his next genre project, finding a home for his adaptation of Christopher Pike's 1993 sci-fi horror novel The Season of Passage at Universal.

Flanagan will be directing the film from a screenplay he's writing with James Flanagan. He'll also be producing it with his Intrepid Pictures partner Trevor Macy. Deadline says plot details for the film are being kept secret, but the synopsis of Pike's novel (buy it HERE) is probably all we need to figure out what the movie's going to be about. The novel centered on

celebrity Dr. Lauren Wagner, who was involved with the most exciting adventure mankind had ever undertaken: a manned expedition to Mars. The whole world admired and respected her. But Lauren knew fear. Inside ? voices entreating her to love them. Outside ? the mystery of the missing group that had gone before her. The dead group.

But were they simply dead? Or something else?

The Season of Passage is a continuation of the working relationship Intrepid and Pike established with the Netflix series The Midnight Club, which Mike Flanagan created with Leah Fong and Pike is executive producing. Currently in production, The Midnight Club draws inspiration from Pike's novel of the same title, as well as other Pike stories.

Pike will also serve as executive producer on The Season of Passage, alongside Melinda Nishioka. Universal's Ryan Jones and Christine Sun are overseeing the project for the studio.

I haven't read The Season of Passage, but I'll watch anything Flanagan makes.
