Ho ho ho, boy! Just when you thought it was safe to leave your milk and cookies out in the open, Disney has announced The Santa Clause series, with Tim Allen reprising his beloved role of Scott Calvin from the original film franchise.
Allen won a People’s Choice award for his portrayal of Scott Calvin, Santa Claus’s proxy, complete with rosy cheeks, white whiskers, and a stomach that shakes like a bowl full of jelly. Allen also reprised his role for two sequels, 2002’s The Santa Clause 2 and 2006’s The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause.
In The Santa Clause series, Scott Calvin is on the brink of his 65th birthday and realizing that he can’t be Santa forever. He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole. With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole. Naturally, The Santa Claus series will bring smiles to all on Disney+.
In addition to his iconic role as Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor for ABC’s Home Improvement, Allen received the People’s Choice Award for eight consecutive years from 1992-1999. In 1995, the multi-talented actor lent his voice to Buzz Lightyear in Pixar’s first computer-animated film, Toy Story. He’s reprised his role as the Andy-loving space cadet and protector of toys for multiple Toy Story sequels, shorts, and other projects related to the franchise. Allen also played the part of Jason Nesmith in Galaxy Quest, directed by Dean Parisot. A Galaxy Quest revival has been teased on multiple occasions, though fans are still waiting to see actual evidence of plans being put into motion.
What do you think of the plot for Disney’s The Santa Claus series? Who do you think will be cast as Scott Calvin’s successor? Will the movie feature a Christmas-themed villain of some type? Maybe Burgermeister Meisterburger, a new spin on Ebenezer Scrooge, or Hans Gruber? We’ll have to wait and see. Will you climb aboard Scott Calvin’s sleigh for another Christmas adventure?
