The Sandlot TV series in early development at Disney+

The Sandlot, TV, Disney+

THE SANDLOT arrived right at the height of my Baseball-mania, during a time where every spare moment was spent practicing throwing, hitting, and catching. Although it's been quite some time since I last watched it, THE SANDLOT still holds a special place in my heart, but is that place large enough for a Sandlot TV series?

David Mickey Evans, director and co-writer of the original film, revealed last month that a TV series based on THE SANDLOT was in the works and today we've learned that the series is now in early development at Disney+. The original film revolved around Scottie Smalls (Tom Guiry), a new kid in the neighbourhood who desperately tried to fit in with a group of boys who play baseball in the sandlot. Throw in a baseball signed by Babe Ruth and a giant English Mastiff known as the Beast, and you've got a great coming-of-age tale. While speaking with the Rain Delay podcast last month, Evans said that he's "already got all the original castmembers back" and that the project will "take place in 1984, when they’re all, like, 33 years old and they all have children of their own." With the success of Cobra Kai at YouTube, I can certainly see the potential in a similar project revolving around the former Sandlot characters.

This isn't the only SANDLOT project which has been in the works, as David Mickey Evans was also attached to pen the script for a SANDLOT prequel with Austin Reynolds last July. There's no word on whether this prequel is still in development, but at the time, it was said that it would involve the legend of the Beast from the first film.
