After breaking hearts as the Duke of Hastings in Netflix's Bridgerton, Regé-Jean Page has been cast as the lead of Paramount's new reimagining of The Saint. In addition to his starring role, Page will executive produce the project, which has Lorenzo DiBonaventura, Brad Krevoy, and the late Robert Evans producing.
Kwame Kwei-Armah will pen the script based on the 1920s book series that follows Simon Templar, also known as The Saint. Often described as a Robin Hood-like criminal and thief for hire, Simon can often be found traveling the globe and on the lookout for adventure. Plot details on the new project are confidential at this time, though sources indicate that the team is working around the clock to reimagine the character. For the moment, it is unknown if Dexter Fletcher (Rocketman, Eddie the Eagle, Bohemian Rhapsody) will end up directing the remake.
Page has been taking big strides with his career ever since his breakout role in Netflix's Bridgerton. In addition to starring in the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons with Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Sophia Lillis, Chloe Coleman, Daisy Head, and Hugh Grant, he's recently wrapped production on Netflix's The Gray Man. Directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, The Gray Man takes place in Europe, where a CIA operative-turned-assassin looks to evade mysterious forces as he tries to save the lives of the daughters who don't know he exists. Set to star alongside Page in the film are Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, Ryan Gosling, Jessica Henwick, Billy Bob Thornton, Alfre Woodard, and more.
What do you think of Page taking on the role of The Saint? Does this mean he's out of the running to replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond? I suppose that only time will tell, but remember this – another actor named Roger Moore played The Saint, and guess what his next role was after? We'll be sure to bring you any new details about this project as it develops.
